Time for YOUR Lions Mock

In the past we have done a competition regarding Lions picks. I know I normally do okay possibly winning one season and doing horrible in at least one too! Without much going on and roughly two weeks out I think I am ready to put my first Lion’s mock out. I may change my mind here and there but this is my best guess. Please feel free to add your picks or we can do an official thread later?

As of right now I am in fact believing the Dolphins and their desire to land a QB. But I don’t think they want to pay a ton to get it done. AND…the Lions don’t want to fall too far back. I think that means the Lions get #5, #39 OA AND a 5th round pick too (#153 I believe). I think the Lions maybe could do better but they don’t want to risk losing their main target. With that said…here are my picks:

1st rd., #5 OA: DT Derrick Brown. This is a change for me. I have been an Okudah fan (and I still am!) but I think the Lions simply have to have elite DT play for this defense to work and I love this kids game, work ethic and ability. 6’5" and 326 pounds means something to me.

2nd rd. pick, #35 OA…#39 OA…Guard Robert Hunt. I am buying the hype on this kid.

2nd rd. pick, (Dolphins pick)…#39 OA…OLBer Curtis Weaver. I am believing the LOVE this guy but no one is talking about it.

3rd rd. pick, #67 OA…CB Cameron Dantzler. I like this kid skinny or no. Hard to see him falling this far but with an incomplete workout and not great numbers due to a quad issue I think he falls this far and the Lions end his slide.

3rd. rd. pick, #85 OA…RB Zach Moss. BIG at 223 pounds and productive. I am buying the Lions love this kid.

4th rd. pick, #109 OA…DE Kenny Willekes (MSU). This guy has a great motor. Former walk on. Lions coached him at the Senior Bowl too.

5th rd. pick, #149…WR Laviska Shenault. Injury concerns push him to rd. 5 where we take a shot on him.

5th rd. pick (from the Dolphins), #153 OA…CB Lamar Jackson. 6’2" and the Lions also coached him at the Senior Bowl. From NE.

5th rd. pick, #166…Punter Braden Mann. Lions coached him at the Senior Bowl.

6th rd. pick, #182 OA…TE Devin Asiasa, a transfer from MI. A BIG kid who has upside.

7th rd. pick, #235 OA…the Lions take a chance on center Trystan Colon-Castillo. I believe he tore his pectoral muscle.

I planned on going defense as much as possible but in the end this becomes a balanced draft. DT and OLBer early are the biggest additions to the defense but I also added a solid CB rd. 3. I am excited about fielding a deep and competitive RB position group with the addition of Zach Moss. I go defense again in rd. 4 then I look for value in rd. 5 with a WR, another CB and then a punter.

This is a major update for me.

Sports Illustrated has Tee Higgins going #25 overall to Minnesota, so I don’t think he’ll be there for us in the 4th round.

This is what I want to do, not what I think the Lions will do.
Trade 3 to Phins for 5, 26, 56.
Trade 5 to Jaguars for 9, 42 and 189
9: CeeDee Lamb WR/Oklahoma
26: Yetur Gross-Matos EDGE/Penn St
Trade 35, 56 and 149 to Ravens for 28
28: Jonathan Taylor RB/Wisconsin
42: Lloyd Cushenberry C/LSU
67: Davon Hamilton DT/OSU
109: Cameron Dantzler CB/Miss St
172: Kendall Coleman EDGE/Syracuse
182: Jake Luton QB/Oregon St
189: Josh Metellus S/Michigan

I dip into the Miss St well again in hopes of another shiny CB, and I make sure I give the board it’s token Wolverine in Metellus.
My view is that a couple of rookies aren’t going to fix this D. A scheme change or difference in coaching would have a better chance at taking this D from garbage to meh. So boost that O. Outscore everyone. Shoot for the number 1 O in the league. Legit scary weapons all over the field, and when injuries happen, capable backups able to step in and not miss a beat.

Here is a site that lists him as a 3rd rounder:
http://www.draftscout.com/players.php?GenPos=WR&DraftYear=2020&sortorder=TSXPos&order=ASC

WR is deep this year. There will be big WR value in rd. 4 this year and I think the Lions jump on that.

Drafty Scout has Tee as their 11th rated WR. 14 WRs were taken in 2019 by early in the 4th round:

Is it likely Tee is gone before that? Yep…but he also might be great value there too. If Tee is gone and Michael Pittman Jr. is gone I also like Gabriel Davis in rd 4. 6’2" Laviska Shenault Jr. is a guy I like too. He is tough as nails. In fact…I like all those guys and I think one of them will be there in rd. 4 early.

Well, to be fair, that site says Higgins is a 2nd round’er, which is probably where he’ll go.
I think the value at WR will be in the 3rd round, after that I think it drops off…maybe someone drops to the 4th though but I don’t think it’s Higgins.

I think 5-18 buys Tua for the Dolphins
I think they surprise half the room taking Isaiah Simmons atvb 5
005) Isaiah Simmons OLB
018) Jerry Jeudy WR
035) J. K. Dobbins RB
067) Darrell Taylor DE
085) Cameron Dantzler CB
4th) Leki Fotu DT
5th) Damien Lewis OG
5th) AJ Dillon RB
6th) Joe Reed WR
7th) Joeseph Carleton P

Draft starts
Burrow
Young
Miami trade for Tua
OT of choice Becton
Isaiah Simmons over Okudah for Detroit. This probably means position switch for Davis if not he probably gets traded.

I’ve been doing the double trade-down with Miami and the Jaguars as well with that PFN Mock Draft simulator, it’s fun. Do I think it actually happens?..I could only hope. Make that #3 overall pick into multiple 1st and 2nd rounders is my pipe-dream.

And at least the ad on my phone wasn’t for Pornhub! LOL

I don’t think Wirfs will be there, Weaver is WAY over rated,(he did absolutely nothing in their bowl game), really don’t like using a draft pick on a punter even though he has been all that.

Using the same picks:

  1. Okudah 1)Justin Jefferson
  2. Blacklock
  3. Isaiah Wilson 3) Logan Stenberg
  4. Darrynton Evans RB
  5. Nick Coe DE 5) Tanner Muse S 5) Quez Watkins WR
  6. McTelvin Agim DT
  7. Netane Muti OG

My mock draft has the Lions trading down with Miami, our 3 for their 5, 26, and a 2021 pick. No LBs, no QBs. Here’s the way it would go if I had my way:

5 Okudah - I think this is the guy the Lions want and will not trade any lower to avoid losing him.If thise pricks (NYG) take them then I dunno what the Lions will do then. Maybe Simmons, maybe Brown .
26 Espenosa - sets the edge, can get to QB
35 Ruiz - plays Center, but has played OG.
67 Prince Tega Wanogho, OT
85 Zack Moss or AJ Dillon (RBs) These guys can run between the tackles, I’m happy with either one.
109 Damien Lewis OG I am really concerned about Dahl coming back from a back injury
149 Fotu DT, doubt if he’ll be more than a run-stuffer, but they need that DL depth
166 John Hightower WR, the Lions WR room is already full, so whoever they draft at WR will have a lot of trouble making the roster. An earlier drafted player stands a better chance of getting poached, and I do think the Lions will extend Golladay.
Bradley Mann Punter. Why not?

Some of these guys won’t start in September but might see PT before it’s over. A lot depends on last year’s rookies, do they take a step up? And Quinn isn’t done signing FAs yet, so things can change.

Actually they project him as a second round pick in that chart, with 3rd round being “late”.

Weaver was playing with a high ankle sprain over the last half of the season. That’s an injury that makes everyone look far worse than they are.

Its yours Yooperlion not mine an I am glad its not mine

Akers flew right by him every time they were close to each other first game of the season. People remark about he can play all over the field, well, for me he simply looks lost when they drop him in coverage. People love him, I’m just not one of them.

Canadalion…I like those picks a lot.

I would LOVE to get Robert Hunt that late. My guess is he ends up a third round guy but hell, no one knows.
